The simple things in life

Today was just one of those lovely days - we had promised Michael that we would bring him into town on the bus and he said he would like to go to Starbucks for a frothy milk. Miss Osc collected Kellie just before 1pm, and we went to get the bus. It was so great to see a five year old all excited at the prospect of a bus journey. All the way, about 40 minutes he kept up a running commentary, asking questions and making many people on the bus smile at him. We went to Starbucks where in response to his sweet smile, the girl gave him a free lolly and extra caramel on his milk - he's such a little charmer  We got a bus back around 3.15 and as we got on at the terminal, we were able to bring him upstairs (we were being so careful of his arm) and he was thrilled, just loved the better view. He snuggled up to Grandad and we had another running commentary all the way back. Neither bus driver charged for him, and when we were getting off back here, the driver was really nice to him.

I had several moments of pure happiness this afternoon, the lovely weather, Michael's innocent chatter, his enjoyment, the knowledge that we were coming home to our lovely new house, and a real feeling that after such an eventful and often stressful year, life seems to be returning to a normal rhythm.

Aw, Osc, that's so just lovely xx

And takes me back to the age of innocence, for the children. They really are a joy, at that age, aren't they? xx

Arnt kids easy to please
So glad you had a great day
When my boys thought it was brilliant to go in a car
And my niece never ever went on a train always by car

Tom used to love the train when he was little. Joe came home from school the other week and told me that the bus home had been a double decker. They're usually singles around here and I think the only double decker he's been on before was a tourist bus in London. I asked him if he'd sat at the front upstairs and pretended to drive :P

Just lovely :D

Funny, when I was a child a ride in a car was a treat (my dad didn't drive) yet to my three public transport, especially trains, were a rare treat

Same here Kaz. One of my strongest childhood memories is of my aunty picking me up from school when I was at infants - I felt like the queen on the 90 second drive home

We didn't get a car until Miss Osc was 10 or 11, so her friends used to love to come and play in our house, as they got to travel home with her on the bus
