That was a good idea.... NOT!

It is bin day and the team turned up as usual but could not do the job because a) the road was full of snow and the lorry could not get round safely - it was sliding about a bit and there are parked cars about and b) the lads could not drag the bins off the pavement because of the depth of the snow.

So there was a bit of a meeting, with the supervisor on his mobile to whomever, and after a while the bin lorry and team drove off.

Next thing two snowploughs turn up and clear the road. Fantastic!

Now the bin men are back. It is safe for the lorry to get about, but..... there is a wall of snow from the snowploughs, about 2 feet high and 2 feet thick, behind which are all our bins! Much laughter from the bin team.

I guess that the bins will not be emptied today. ;) :D

Collections were suspended around here yesterday but our collection is today, the council website said to just put the bins out and they'd be emptied whenever they could manage it, plus they had to catch up with what they couldn't do yesterday.
I was amazed to see the lorry coming up our treacherous close a few minutes ago. Not so amazed when I saw it trying to inch it's way around the corner though (I should mention that we live on that corner and our house is 3ft away from the footpath) - even the dog was watching
Fair play to them though, they got round and managed to turn at the end of the cul de sac and all of the bins are emptied.

The South Ribble refuse dept are really excellent. I can't praise them highly enough. They are here as always and there is never any nonsense about lids not fully closed and all that stuff.

I am not having a go at the bin men, they tried, but the bins were snowed in.

It was the snowplough "solution" that made everyone smile - they solved one problem by making another one!
