The Wonders of Facebook!

I'm a member of a Facebook group where local photos are posted, photos old and new. A few weeks ago there was a photo posted of a blacksmith outside of his forge in the town centre, on what is now the ring road. When I read the description bells started ringing and I looked at a census that I'd copied from Ancestory.com when they had a free weekend and it turned out that this blacksmith was my great great grandfather.

I couldn't wait to tell my Mom as she didn't know much about her Dad's side of the family as he died of polio when she was a child, and had never seen her grandfather so John printed the photo out at work the following day and we took it around the next night. She was absolutely delighted with it! :D

Anyway here he is, Thomas Rock

That's brilliant, Jo, FB gets so much bad press and it's lovely to see something nice like that.

It is a small world, Jo, isn't it?

I wonder how the person who posted it got hold of the photo? I would not be able to rest till I found out.

What a wonderful thing to happen.

I've often thought I would like to trace my parents' ancestors, because I know
so little about them, except that there seems to be a few mysteries there.
When we were young we very rarely saw or visited relations, so it didn't seem
as though that was the done thing. But I guess it's a bit late for me to start on
a search project now.

Thats lovely Jo. Do you know why the person that posted the photo had it in the first place?

I am a member of a similar site on FB that is local to us and that gets some really interesting photos posted to it (although someone is rather obsessed with buses so there are lots of bus photos)
