My niece gave birth to a little boy just after 5.30am today, making me a grand aunt for the first time My brother texted me at 6.15 saying he was exhausted It is his first grandchild and makes a lovely gift for his 71st birthday on Saturday. His other daughter is expecting her first child at the end of June.

I'm going to be for the second time in September. I feel far far far too young to be called grand aunt, so great aunt it shall be. thanks Cal!

I actually looked that up this morning, Cal, as I was never quite sure which it should be! According to Ancestry, the correct word is grand, with great being added on per generation after that. Grand makes sense when you think about it - grandmother, grandfather, grand aunt, all the same generation.
