Back to square one......

Received a phone call yesterday morning to say Sonia the bungalow vendor has changed her mind about selling and has pulled out. It came completely out of the blue as we and the agent thought she seemed so reliable and things were progressing really well. Totally gutted, not to mention a few £100 out of pocket for the survey and searches :(

This was actually our plan B as waiting for the apartment had dragged on for 4 months, sods law they phoned on Saturday to say they've also changed their mind and are staying put. Not a problem because of the bungalow we thought, wrong!!!!!!! So there we go plan B and A both out of the window.

Feeling thoroughly fed up, honestly it's never been so hard to spend money :(

That is just so incredibly and beyond frustrating. To be honest I've never quite got my head around the buying / selling style here in the UK; it's all rather odd. Gazumping should be illegal - once offers are made and accepted it should be legally binding. I also think the seller should be the one to do all the surveys and have them to hand, not the buyer

I am so sorry and I do hope that you very soon find just the right property for the two of you; I'm sure it's out there somewhere xxx

So sorry, Jen--i hope you find something soon :D
It is a minefield out there with house buying at the moment :o
My young grand daughter and her boyfriend found what they thought
was their ideal home and it was all going through nicely until Becky
discovered that the seller did`nt own all the house--the council
owned 70% of it and they would have to pay rent on the parking space
etc.
They pulled out but lost £800 (which they could ill afford) on the survey
fees.
They have now found something else but are now very wary so i hope this
goes through alright for them.

Oh Jen, I'm so angry for you.

But there is something else out there for you.

Over here, you sign a contract and pay normally 10% of the price. And that is legally binding. If the owner pulls out, he has to pay the purchaser double the deposit.

You'll find something soon xx

Oh Jen, I'm so sorry :( It's terrible that someone can lead you on for so long, then pull out :evil: I really do think that a vendor who does that should have to refund any expenses you have had. You are ideal purchasers, house sold, no chain, money ready to go so I really hope that the right house comes along for you soon. Maybe time to get rather cross with the estate agent, four months is far too long to be stringing someone along (in relation to the apartment) without even getting to contracts exchanged. The sale of our house was virtually done and dusted in that time, and we thought it was too slow.

Oh Jen - what a complete pain.

But when you do find your ideal house you'll be really glad that these fell through as it will be so much nicer.

How annoying Jen, hopefully you'll find the perfect home very soon. Buying and selling in England is such an unfair process :(

Oh, Jen, you must feel devastated, not to mention angry.

The house-buying system in this country certainly needs a good shake-up.
