just a couple days ago our UK bank informed us that an attempt had been made to use O.H's debit card for 4,330 kwachas -yeah we did'nt know whose currency that was, until the bank said -it's happened in/from MALAWI ,on checking currencies that amount was 6.30 in uk money!

strange thing is though is that her card has not been out of this appt in the last 4 years (at least) always use mine

Interesting article - however I do agree with the comment by Ming_the_Merciless about people being greedy, trying to get something for nothing, and that they wouldn't be scammed if they didn't willingly give their credit card details. For every scammer out there, there is always someone who will fall for it.

"Too many of our customers have fallen victim to these scams."

No they have not, they have fallen victim to their own greed or stupidity. Maybe it is time the banks etc, told these people the truth rather than trying to sympathise with them and garner sympathy from the rest of us on their behalf.

I have been banging on about this sort of thing since God was in nappies, and thank goodness the good people on VV are wise enough not to be taken in.

I no longer have any sympathy for any but the elderly or infirm or those with learning difficulties. They need protecting as best we can. The rest have had access to information about how to protect themselves for years on end, If they choose to ignore it it is their lookout.

Morning everyone.. Courtesy of Kaz. Yes I fell for a really nasty scam and discovered on line that there are pages galore of people who have been taken in by these crooks Equinox who on Facebook wanted people to test a face cream, cost £4.99 and that was for postage. I could not believe my bank statement that is comparatively low exhibiting large amounts of money being taken out by this company. I think £79 a month (memory not too good) gus went mad was furious with me and the company who stated I had signed up for an ongoing £79 a month. I was mortified. I rang a number was kept on for ages with no results, the operator transferred me to another number.same waffle both numbers in the States. Rang another. Number in Ireland. The English company involved are in Surrey and Ireland. Gus got two £49.00 back, they kept the rest I was not reimbursed. I was shocked to see the number of posters on Facebook who had fallen for this scam. Gusty threatened to have me sectioned when I bought a Go Chef marvellous. £79.00 was the cost, but one can roast, and cook anything and everything in it.
I was mortified to discover that I was being charged £99.00 a year for a booklet giving me great deals. I immediately contacted the company who cancelled the JML and reimbursed the £99.00 the Go Cheff was smoking from the plug that was melting very dangerous, I sent it back to the company and they sent me a new one Thank you JML my faith in human nature virtually restored. Yes I was stupid, hopefully I have learned my lesson. I am not one to buy online, the face cream scam has taught me a lesson
