......this is why I never normally take himself shopping with me! We walked up to Sainsbury's and the normal route was absolutely fine! A fair bit of compacted snow on some parts of the pavements, but because the walk takes us mostly alongside a road it was fine!
So we get there, have a bite and a cuppa in the cafe to thaw out a bit, get our few bits of essentials - extra milk for the freezer, some nice fresh bread, more fruit, some spuds, some lovely bacon which was half price - and then as there were huge queues at the main checkouts we used the self-scan. Eventually after M's *help* packing the bags - which bought the assistant running twice as the till started shrieking at us - we finished and got outside!
"Oh I know a good short cut" he says "Is that a good idea? In this weather wouldn't we be better sticking to the main roads where the pavement are ok?" "Oh it will be fine, it will cut a good ten minutes off the walk!" and off he strides so I trail after him..............
Well we went down a little footpath where the ice was solid, then another bit with foot deep snow................up a slope ( ) and over a very slippery road bridge over the dual carriageway ( ) then slippy slidey down it on the other side............down by the side of Walls ice cream factory ( ) then finally along a slippy footpath along the side of the dual carriageway...........eventually (a good twenty minutes later) we came out at the roundabout near our estate! I was not happy - he could see that - when I eventually caught up with him. You would have thought the icy snowballs I'd been chucking at his back for the last half mile might have told him that!!
Short cut my @rse, as Jim Royle would say!
Why do men always know best - even when they don't!!!!!
The usual route takes me 15 minutes BTW
