Last week we had a guy come from a local company which supplies blinds to give us a quote for Roman blinds. I saw him drive up and went downstairs to meet him at the door but after a minute or so he drove off again. I then realised that my phone needed rebooting so perhaps he had tried to call, but on the other hand he never even got out of the van to see which was our house. I rang the company before he got to the end of the street and he arrived back about 10 minutes later. He measured up, showed us one sample book, said there was another one in their showroom, made no effort to engage with us at all about fabrics, and was packing up and back down the stairs while I was still asking him questions :shock: We were really annoyed and I decided that if he followed up I was going to tell him that they had not got the job and why.

Well, my moment came today - he phoned and asked if we had had a chance to think about it. So I told him we would be going elsewhere because we did not like his attitude. I said it appeared to us that he had either decided that we were not going to buy or else they were so busy, they didn't need our business. Do you know what, he didn't even apologise :roll: He just said "Ok thanks" and that was it! I was even more pleased then that I had said my little piece.

Things work out - SIL's family company does hotel interiors but I never like to impose by asking for stuff, although I know we could. When I was telling him the story last weekend, he insisted that I send him the measurements and said his sister would deal with it for us. We've had a great quote from them, and it will be hotel quality, just need to choose fabrics now which we will get at cost.

The decline in customer service skills has been noticeable these past few years. The only way that will change is if we customers make our feelings known.

brilliant osc well done
just after B died i decided to have a hedge cut down at the side of the front garden
well a fella did it but left alot of root showing
i had asked him to cut it right close to the ground he said it would be to difficult to dig roots out
anyway i have moaned about these hedge roots for 5 years
so decided late last year to have a garden make over because i dont know
when i will ever move
so i rang a gardener via internette ho yes he said i will come this afternoon
he turned up and said i took your hedge down
so i sent him on his way sharpish
revenge is sweet but still need garden done but must remember not to ring a guy called steve :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol:

We ordered new blinds for our kitchen, and they had the nerve to send us a blind man.

Well, he told us he was when he telephoned our apartment to be let in.

In contrast - this afternoon we set out to have a more extensive look at a dining room table we had seen some time ago and liked, armed with measurements and a piece of our wood flooring. Although we had really liked the table, when we put it close to the flooring it looked quite "orange" (it is oak). We saw another we had liked but I felt it was too big for the space. We spent quite some time in the shop, attended by a woman who was helpful but kept wittering on. In the end, we could not decide so said we would go away and think about it.

As we were walking to the car, we passed another shop where we had not looked before. They also had a nice oak table, better price than the other shop and a better fit for the space. The man helping us could not have been more helpful, he knew when to step in, when to shut up and when to go away and let us discuss it, plus he had a nice dry sense of humour. So in the end we bought it, and a little table for between our two chairs, and I told him that one of the reasons he got the sale was due to his nice manner and knowledge of how to treat a customer. They arrive next Thursday :D

Having worked in the so called hospitalilty trade for most of my working years, it's knowing when/where and what to say that makes all the difference.
