Warning: An Apple scam!

Postby Workingman » 29 Jan 2015, 20:09

Today I received this email.

Now, I am one of those anti-Apple people who refuses to live their dream, and the only "Tunes" I buy are those Cherry Menthol ones. :D :D So, it is unlikely for me to have an Apple anything never mind have it registered.

However, some of you do do the Apple thing and if you do you should be aware. There is no such place a Service@appl.com (note the missing 'e' in the sender's address) and http:// virzan. com/rdi.php is a Phishing website. The whole thing looks good but is a hoax. Another clue is it being addressed to Hello client.

Be careful!!!

I've had a couple of them WM. Plus invoices from iTunes. I never download music and my apple account is registered to different email account than the one they send these emails to, so I know they are scams.

I'd never respond to anything like that or click on a link in that kind of email. Recently, I've had a couple of similar ones purporting to be about my Hotmail account, consigned to the trash as soon as received!

I know that these things are a bit of a bee in my bonnet, but it is good to know that, at least VVers, are doing the right things with them.

Kaz, I do not have any Apple things, but I still got the e-mail. I though it a good idea to show everyone a "live" scam in action.

Most interesting, Frank.

I don't have anything from Apple, but it's good of you to warn those who might.

I never open any Email if it's from someone I don't know.

I had that email a couple of weeks ago but was intrigued that the header had the word "costumer" rather than "customer"....lol, bit of a giveaway, and a clue that all was not right....I have an iphone and an itunes account but never use it so there'd be no activity on it.

I also had an email recently from "Paypal" (ha!) asking me to validate my account as they could see a discrepancy in something about it (I forget what, now) but the logo/address was not the same as past emails I have had from PP so I took no notice of it.

It's quite unnerving to know that some less cynical people than me might think they are genuine emails and act accordingly..... :(
