The housing market....

Postby Ally » 16 Jan 2015, 14:48

...in Birmingham has just been super speedy. :o

Don instructed the estate agent to put his mum's house on the market on the 5th Jan.

It had its first viewing last Saturday - the couple loved the house and put in an offer of 2k below the asking price and Don has accepted.

They want to get in asap. :o

Quick work!  :D

It can happen Ally.

The two houses at the end of the ginnel were put on the market about 18 months ago. An old lady lived in one and when she died her family put the house up for sale. It went before the board was put up. The other, virtually identical, is still up for sale.

When we moved three years ago, our house was sold the first week it went on the market.

It can, and does happen quite often, especially if it's a des. res. and at the right price.

That's brilliant Ally, so much easier for Don to know it will all be done and dusted xx

Oh I am chuffed for you and Don Ally :) I think the market has picked up a bit in the last year or so - I think after 4 or 5 years of not much happening people started to realise that if they waited for the recession to be over they might never move - and so things started to move again  ;)

As an aside when Mick sold his little house here in Gloucester (two bed terrace) so that we could move to Swindon for his promotion in 2004, his house sold on the first day! Not only that but he had three viewings that day, two offers but took the cash one  :geek:

He'd just put in a new kitchen and bathroom, reverted the dining room back from a gym to a dining room with table ( Ally and Di will get the joke threre :P ;) ) so it was a very nice little house ;) :)

Our first place was a new build flat. We bought it in June 1991 and our downstairs neighbours put their flat up for sale a few months later (it wasn't us, we got on well! She was pregnant and they wanted more room). Anyway, in January 1994 we decided that the time had come to move on. Downstairs was still for sale so we thought that if we put our flat on the market we'd be able to save quite a decent deposit by the time it sold!
It went on the market on the Friday and on the Sunday lunch time a couple knocked on the door and asked if they could have a quick look. They went from there to the estate agents which was open on Sundays and made an asking price offer which we accepted. Of course, that left us with no deposit so we ended up back with parents while we saved.

Our house sale was quick as well, saying that we'd sold to the builders but they were then selling it on and they accepted an offer on the second day of it being for sale - we'd had four viewings by then with loads more scheduled as the week went on.

John's Mom sold her house within a week or two back in 2013 too.
