Manchester people, help!

Miss Osc, Michael and myself are going to Manchester for the day on Saturday week the 24th for the Strictly Tour at the Phones4U arena. Now I see that the train station is going to be closed that weekend for engineering works  While I assume that there will be bus transfers into Manchester Piccadilly I am more concerned about getting back to the airport for our flight home at 7.30pm. The airport website is not giving much info on transfers, would a taxi back be very expensive and presumably I would need to book it? All advice and suggestions gratefully received :) :)

Osc, you can get a tram. I noticed last weekend when me and Joe were on there going to Old Trafford. I think it was the Eccles line that we were on, from Piccadilly Gardens, and I'm pretty sure that you had to take that to Cornbrook (a few minutes) and from there you could get one to the airport.

I'll have a look for the exact details

Thanks Jo, would that be similar for Victoria station which serves the area?

It's about 10 minute walk from Victoria Station but looking further into it, there looks to be cancellations throughout the city centre next weekend and there looks to be a replacement bus service from the city centre to Cornbrook, it's all a bit confusing though but there's a customer service email customerservices@metrolink.co.uk and a phone number too 0161 205 2000 so maybe they might be able to give better info.

Typical isn't it that you plan something and then public transport messes up - we faced several closed tube lines and stations when Joe and I went to London last November.

Alternatively, if you don't mind bussing it there's a service that runs every 10 minutes by the looks of things from the city centre to the airport.
