Asda today:

Heinz oxtail soup tin - 290g small - 74p
Heinz oxtail soup tin - 400g large - 50p

It is truly getting daft out there ......

But I'm more concerned about the dairy farmers, with 2L milk back to 45p and 4L milk 70 something, I think.

I know falling prices are good news, but I think, certainly with milk, we could do with some sort of Price Commission .....

If there were a way to buy directly from the farmer I would - I'd happily skip that middle man and give every penny of what I'm paying to the man who's doing all the hard work

I used to do just that Ria. I couldn't get all my milk from them as they only did full fat raw (unpasteurised) milk (which was so creamy and lush) and as lovely as it was I'd be the size of a house if that's all I drank, but I got two or three pints a week for them.

But they stopped doing it.

There are 3 other farms around us that do it but they are all just abit far away. I buy if I'm going past but don't make a special trip.

My sister in Germany did the same; they had a farmer about 10 mins walk up the road (admittedly they do live quite rurally) and she'd go every 2nd day or so to get the milk from him. And once a week the farmer would sell his home made cheese - the most yummy cheese ever.

hmm..... I may just put a post on Streetlife and see if anyone knows of anyone locally that sells milk to the public

I have had that recently with washing powder. One large drum containing 1kg was £12.00 Three small drums containing 550g were £4.00. So I bought 3x500g for £12.00

I do feel really sorry for farmer
I only buy semi skimmed milk long life

I buy goats' (for my digestion) and it is a lot more expensive, I think the price of cows' is ridiculously cheap

I think they are probably right. I have seen things like "Special offer 2 x 400g for £4" flying off the shelves when a larger normal single pack, 450g, is £1.79.

I'll leave you lot to work it out.

I remember when the farmer used to come round with milk in a churn
and ladle it out into your own jug.

But that was 80 years ago.
