We've met with the funeral director today.
It'll be very simple.
3rd December will be the committal. Just me, mum, Mick, my sister, her partner and my inlaws at a short 10 minute ceremony at the crematorium.
Then on 10th December it'll be the service of thanks at mums church followed by food at one of the pubs in our village (which Dad liked).
Bit of a result on the xmas front. In the early hours of Tuesday morning, whilst waiting for the undertaker I mentioned xmas. Mum said she'd be fine on her own. I didn't push it. Today I said we would need to discuss it nearer the time as if I was asking her I needed to invite the inlaws and I didn't want her to decide last minute she wasn't coming and I be left with the inlaws. She announced that she was coming to us on xmas eve and staying til Boxing Day. We always go to our friends on Boxing Day and they have already said my mum is welcome to come with us. She may just watch the raft race and go home; she may decide to have a lift with the inlaws and go home xmas day night or she may decide to come and watch Julie and I get drunk on Boxing Day - but I'm so pleased she's coming to us. I mentioned that we go to the xmas eve carols round the tree and she said that sounded nice. We usually go to the pub for a drink on xmas day and that means, if she wants, mum can stay home alone for a couple of hours to give her chance to think and grieve in private.
