Cars and lights....

it's a quite dull, grey and dismal day here today. I had a vet appointment this morning and whilst on my way there I was amazed at just how many cars drive with no lights on (and not just today but most days like this). I know it's not a legal requirement but it makes such a difference when they have lights on, esp as these days most car colours all seem to blend in with the grey roads / surroundings

Do you usually drive with lights on or only when it's dark?

It's a habit I got from my mom, but unless it's a really bright sunny day I automatically fasten seatbelt and switch on the lights

I usually switch my lights on if it is misty, foggy, snowing, or very dim light ie early morning etc. I have noticed the amount of drivers who don't use the fog lights when it is light fog, I do and also how many use front spotlights when they don't need to ie a clear evening even thought dark.

I always drive with my lights on, our Road Safety Authority recommends it and had a big campaign about it a few years back.

I always drive with my lights on if it is a dull day as I know how hard it is to see other cars. If I am driving along country lanes, even on good days, I will have my lights on because of the shade coming from overhanging trees. It's always important to be visible and not to just think about what you can see.

Most cars around here have their lights on all the time, even on a bright day.

I, too, am surprised how many drive without any lights when it's dull and/or raining.
I usually flash my headlights at them whilst muttering an obscenity.

The one big advantage of having lights on, I find, is that your instrument panel is
illuminated. On a dull day it is difficult to see your speedometer without lights.

I passed my test in the UK, but learned to drive in Germany, and turning lights on during low light conditions became second nature.

What drives me mad are those drivers who drive on parking lights, not dipped headlights, and who believe that they are as visible as Blackpool Illuminations on a clear night.

When it gets murky I turn the lights on. What I don't like is people who turn the fog light on when they don't need to and you are following them for miles!
