Grrrrr.............

You may remember the sale of our house was supposed to complete on......Monday, yes Monday, the day before yesterday. Yet here we are, 16.51 on Wednesday and still waiting    On Monday the bank was waiting for confirmation of the buyer's life insurance and then would issue the cheque. Didn't happen. Yesterday, it could possibly happen by day's end. Didn't happen. Today, apparently the life insurance was in the wrong name and nobody in the bank noticed     so now the bank is STILL waiting it would seem for life insurance and house insurance certs to be provided. Not going to happen today either. Spoke to the estate agent who says the buyers are just as frustrated, and in the meantime, we have paid €500 for a holiday let when we could still have been in the house. Does nobody in a bank do their job properly ever???????

That is awful Osc! How difficult can it be to get the details right in the first place? Very annoying that you've paid out for the holiday let too :x
Fingers crossed for tomorrow!

Oh blimey Osc!
Did they not have to adhere to the completion date or pay you something?

Here, on exchange the completion date is set and if it's not met then the buyer has to pay all sorts - it happened to us

Blimey Di that must be everyone's worst nightmare  As far as I understand it completion date is legally binding and if the buyers fail they not only forfeit their 10% deposit but can be sued for 1000's. How was it resolved in your case ?

Are the laws different in Ireland Osc ? Have you any redress if this drags on much longer ?

Yes I think the law must be different, because Miss Osc said there was no way we would get anything, there was no point even trying. It's well known that closings often don't happen on the stated date and it's more often than not the fault of the financial institution, but this is extreme. I'll bet Miss Osc is very sorry she agreed to act for us in the sale! The other solicitor has been a real nightmare, and of course, now she is trying to actually stop working and have a couple of weeks at home before the baby arrives. It makes me so cross that this is dragging out like that for her

From my own experience, I would say that a lot of people don't do their jobs properly nowadays.
Only the other day my wife was saying the same thing and pointed out the number of occasions
when she had to keep telephoning to get things put right because of peoples' gross inefficiency.

I can understand just how annoyed you must feel. Can't your solicitor do anything about it?
