I'm having my new flooring delivered tomorrow (30 boxes), ready for Karl (my brother) and I to install it on the weekend. Frank, my brother from Germany, and his girlfriend arrive on Sunday evening so all needs to be back in place by then. Because I want to redo the flooring of the entire flat (except the bathroom) I ordered it all now to make sure I have the same flooring throughout, but we'll only do the lounge and hopefully the small entrance hall and passage this weekend and I'll just have to (somehow) store the other boxes under my bed until we can do the rest. Then I need to get rid of the old carpets; the one now in the lounge is going to my neighbour but the passage one will be chucked I think. Unfortunately neither the neighbour nor I really have space to store the old carpet (I wasn't thinking when I offered it to her) so she's going to have to arrange for a friend to help her out with laying it sooner rather than later. but what we'll do with it in the meantime is anyone's guess

Then next week I'm finally getting the three wonky fence panels replaced which means I'll need to redo the cat proofing that part of the garden

I'll be ready for my few days holiday but it'll be fantastic to finally have the fence fixed and the lounge floor nice and clean

Oh wow, busy busy indeed, but it will all look fab when it's done!! Nothing like fresh flooring to 'lift' the look of a place, IMO not even decorating has the same effect

We keep toying with the idea of having wooden flooring in the hall but I'm worried it'll be cold underfoot, plus Billy races down the stairs if he thinks he's going for a walk and, even with carpet, comes close to banging into the front door so I think he'd be skidding all over the place

Jo I wouldn't either, Minnie hates it if we go visiting and there are wood floors, she doesn't even like to go into the room. Smaller dogs seem to manage better I've noticed.
She's not even keen on the tiles in the kitchen - it's a good job there's a decent mat by the back door as when she launches herself out there to charge down the garden barking at Monsters, she'd break something otherwise.

LOL Jo and Di - you should see my lot when they come running in from the back garden. The open plan dining / kitchen area already has laminate flooring down (a cheap one that will replaced) and they come running in at full speed and then try and turn the corner because the door out the kitchen to the rest of the flat is to their right.... they never make it and scrabble along the floor, bounce off the kitchen units in front of them and then continue full pelt to the lounge

But I can't wait for it all to be done; with six cats (all but one semi long haired) having carpets is just a nightmare to clean. I'll still have my lovely turkish / persian rug in the lounge though so not too cold underfoot

I was going to mention about first impressions and a clean passage, but I just know that it will be taken the wrong way, so I shall refrain.

It's fiddly work, and pretty dusty, fitting laminate. Make sure that you are organised, Ria, and remember the old adage 'measure twice, cut once.

Frank, thankfully my brother is doing the fitting (I'm just there to fetch and carry and make copious cups of tea) and bless him - he put down the flooring of my previous flat as well as their previous house and their current house - all of upstairs and downstairs. I'm really really really lucky because he is such an amazing and dab hand at this kind of thing (all things DIY to be honest - from flooring, to plumbing to electrics etc) and best is; he's a perfectionist.

Son's dogs slip and slide all over here makes me laugh at times
