Do you "hide" money?

Do you keep it stashed away around the house?

I have a money pot that I put £20 a month in - one of those one's that you have to smash. I'm not saving for anything inparticular, I've just got into the habit of putting £20 a month in. Mick knows its there and that I put money in each month.

But I have an old biscuit tin on top of the kitchen cupboards that I also put money in. For no reason whatsover! I won £100 on the lottery not long ago and that went in there, when I worked at the wedding a few weeks ago I was paid £80 and that went in and a friend has just given me £40 she owes me and I've put that in there too. There was already some money in it from before - I have no idea how much is actually in there. At least £300.

I never put the money in or take it out when anyone else is in the kitchen so I don't think anyone knows it is in there. I have to reach it by opening the cupboard door and pulling it towards me with a wooden spoon. There are other tins up there too so it doesn't look odd just having this one tin there.

I'm going to use the money to pay for the girls ipads I think, for their xmas presents.

It's quite nice knowing I have a little stash of money!

Lovely but no I would never keep cash around the house, in fact I rarely carry much in case I either lost it or got my purse or bag snatched :? I prefer to use my debit card and only carry cash for the bus etc....That is just me though. I know my mum used to keep money stashed away as every time we took the kids round she would insist on giving them some - she'd go into the bedroom, you would hear rummaging and then she'd come out with money in her hand!! J and I used to tell her off as we were worried about old people keeping much cash in the house..... :?

I do however have some savings - my 'running away money' as someone online once called that little stash you have (I think it might have been either our Rodo or our Nanna!), just for yourself ;) :P

It was probably Rodo who coined that phrase Kaz.

I put money away in a wallet for my grandsons each week. When it gets to a decent amount (or in the case of emergency) I put it in their savings accounts or borrow it :). It always gets paid back.

PS I also gave a 'me' account not for running away though, I need DD to take me where I want to go :D

All our accounts are joint accounts - don't know why, just the way we set them up I suppose. So this feels like "me" money.

I think I take after my mum - she has little envelopes in an old biscuit tin and she puts bits of money in for certain things - Christmas, holidays, etc. My nan did the same.

No I didn't use the term running away money, but I have always had my own totally separate bank accounts. Some people call it mad money.

No need to as we each have our own separate account :D We like it that way.

Although if T has a win on the dogs/horses, he might give it to me to keep 'safe' (from him, likely!! ) as spends for our holidays :)
