Well we were sat in D's garden this afternoon, in glorious sunshine, no sound except the birds tweeting when suddenly there was the roar of engines overhead and suddenly, wheeling overhead across the deep blue sky, were a Hurricane and a Spitfire :o :D :D They flew across the sky, out of sight, and then wheeled back again - almost as though we were getting or own show!!! 8-) :D :D :D

Apparently there was an airshow on today at Weston-Super-Mare.....seems we got the practice flight maybe, or the run up? 8-) :D :D

I am not 100% sure whether they were original planes or replicas - M said there is only one Spitfire left still fit to fly - but my oh my it was something else 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-)

I was on ground crew duties when we had them for an AirShow at Church Fenton..... Spitfire, Hurricane and Lancaster.

There is something inexplicable about them, something to make you hair stand on end.

Kaz, if you ever get a chance to get close to them have a real good look, then compare them with the thing that takes you on holiday. You will wonder how anyone dared go up in them never mind fight a war in them. :o

It was pretty amazing :D

Apparently the Red Arrows were there, but they didn't come our way - I would imagine they would go out over the Bristol Channel perhaps?

When I was in the RAF, I hada flight in a Lincoln. This was a development of the Lancaster bomber. I was sat in the bomb-aimers position at the very front of the aircraft. Marvelous view until the stall test was done.
Could hear the pilot over the intercom saying what the speed was when suddenly the nose dropped!!
Back to full power and level flight very quickly.
Had a good hour flying over Yorkshire. That was in 1958.
Now people are paying several thousands to fly in a Lancaster.
That is or was flying.

Used to live at end of RAF runway in Germany (With forces at time) once the sky went completely black and 35 black hawks flew over and landed ................... stunning................but no one was allowed on base with a camera; they only stayed for a day and then off to the gulf :!:
