oh I just feel the need to share, today I took blood from a patient for the first time ever!

This is something that is not taught until you are a registered nurse, so had the training yesterday - today was working at a clinic in hospital and someone needed a blood test done - although I had a go first on my lovely boss, who let me practice first on her!

Have to be observed and signed off as competent 5 times (or more if i want) before left alone to do it - felt SO nervous but I got 2 tubes of blood from boss and 2 from patient!

woohoo!!

You can come and take mine. I have to go on Monday to have another sample taken. This is done very six months.

When I was younger I used to donate blood. Have a badge as I gave over 50 pints. Used to go twice a year if possible.

thanks all :D still can't believe I did it!

I am no good at having blood taken myself and come over all funny :( I have donated blood 8 times and have been told now I am not to go back as I am so close to fainting every time, so they said thanks but no thanks :'(

Its all a bit scary and exciting, will no doubt take me a while before I feel confident doing it.
