I ha do been bidding on eBay for a bed base for L.

My maximum was £50.65 and I was winning up til the last hour. It eventually went for £189. It is from Next - you can still buy them new (inc delivery) for £199!!!

L's will now be coming new and delivered from Tesco for £125

Why do people pay so much for so etching that's used and still available to buy brand at a similar or cheaper price.

I don't get it either.......

I can often find things cheaper in local stores than on eBay.

I think people get carried away by the bidding thing.......

It's probably because they don't think to look on the internet to see if something is still available new and compare prices. Some people automatically think that if it's on EBay it must be cheaper than in the shops

but definitely crackers!

It's crazy. We've sold Joe's bike on Ebay tonight, he's outgrown it. It's a proper mountain bike, a Specialized, and we paid £249 for it 3 years ago (John always says that if you buy them a decent bike then you can get a good return when they outgrow them). They're selling brand new for something like £269 now. Joe's has just sold for £205
The boys are chuffed to bits, they're splitting the proceeds because Joe had Tom's Specialized which he'd outgrown and Tom bought himself a new one.

Let's look at the Idiot Of EBay who bought Joe's bike shall we?!

He paid £205 for a 3 year old second hand bike which is now selling new for £269.

We advertised it as collection in person only, and our location was mentioned twice in the listing. He's spoken to John this morning to arrange collection and asked where in the country we are. John said we were between Stafford and Birmingham. Right. Numpty is in the Lake District. By the time he's paid for petrol, he may as well have gone to a local bike shop and got a brand new bike. He's calling back later to say whether he's decided to collect it or whether he's going to arrange a courier.

I was out when John spoke to him and I've told him in no uncertain terms that he's NOT to agree with a courier collection. We'd have to get enough cardboard etc to pack it safely and securely, someone would have to wait in for it to be collected...but the biggy is that a buyer-arranged courier would negate our seller rights with Paypal, what's to stop him saying that he's not received the bike once the courier has it? PayPal would ask us for proof of postage which we wouldn't have.

I think that people become fixated with the headline price and forget all other costs...... and they also want to "win".

A month or so ago I was bidding for a TV described as an unwanted gift - never used. I had checked the price on the I'net and was prepared only to pay so much given that it was second-hand and had postal charges......... It eventually went for only a couple of pounds below the brand new store price with free delivery.
