when we comw to the UK in a couple weeks time we are staying in WORCESTER for a few days and visiting family in HARTLEBURY which is about 9 miles distant

served by 2 bus services? one stops 2 miles away at it's closest point,the other has last bus back to Worcester at 5.40pm !

Lots of country services are the same these days Vic. I must say one of the advantages of living in Gloucester (and there aren't that many ) is its terrific bus service Our bus into the city centre comes every ten minutes and runs from early until late

Victor, check out the train service. It's a lot better now than it has been in recent years, almost hourly. Just watch whether the train goes from Foregate Street or Shrub Hill station in Worcester - it's usually but not exclusively the former. Takes around 15-20 minutes. Off-peak returns about a fiver.

Last train back is 19:00 in the evening, though.

Worcestershire County Council has slashed rural bus grants as a result of the budget cuts, and many services have been / are being completely withdrawn.

Vic, as Kaz says - most country services are dire. Where I live there are two bus lines that alternate running an hourly service (ie each line runs every 2 hours). The first bus only leaves about 7.20am and the last bus home is about 6pm so for someone like me that works in London it just doesn't work.

oh hope you can find an alternative, its a bit rubbish being in places with poor bus services.

We are lucky, the bus stop is about 3min walk from my front door and there are regular buses from prob 6am to 11pm into Edinburgh and then night buses every hour or so throughout the night.

Been away too long, can't help at all

It's pretty good by us, there are I think six buses an hour down on the main road which is about a 3 minute walk away. The trains aren't very reliable though, the service was cut to one an hour rather than half hourly and it seems that every weekend - Sundays especially - there's engineering work that means trains are replaced by buses which take forever as they have to go off the beaten track and call in at every railway station

We're very lucky - we have two routes that provide a 15 minute interval service into the centre of Birmingham, the fast one takes about 20 minutes, the slow one about 30 minutes. They are scaled back to hourly in the evenings after around 19:00, and go through to midnight. more or less.

The other way, we have a 20 minute interval fast service into Sutton Coldfield which takes about 8 minutes, alternatively it's a quarter-hourly slower service via the local estate which takes around 18 minutes. There's also two or three services run by independent operators into Sutton, but they are at best hourly.

Finally, there's a 20 minute frequency service to Solihull, but it goes all-over the place and you'd be quicker walking ....

suppose living here i have become accustomed to a bus service that starts ar 6.30 a.m and finishes at11.45p.m-with a choice of a bus every 20min.

now that's public transport !
