gosh that is a long time Vic... I wonder if they either don't have the spare parts and are still waiting, or they don't have the facilities to carry out the repairs where the plane is now and now don't know how to fly it out of there so it can be fixed

http://www.pprune.org/rumours-news/5342 ... fnc-3.htmlAccording to those who fly the landing was much "harder" than previously thought and damage sustained to the aircraft resulted in a broken fuselage. The AAIB (Air Accident) has now finished its investigations into the incident and repair work is about to start.
It would normally be a hangar job, but Funchal doesn't have the facilities.

WM,
About twenty years ago, when I was still working, I was one of the passengers on a plane which landed at Maderia.
It did a nose wheel heavy landing. It took over an hour to get the luggage out as the door into the cargo hold had jammed.
I still have photos of the skin round the nose wheel which was wrinkled due to the force of the impact when the nose wheel hit the runway.
The plane was still parked on the taxi way when we flew home after our two week holiday. Stayed at the Casino Palace hotel.
Have been back to the island on cruise ships

Flying is great fun, till your arms get tired,
then it can be a bit of chore!
