Internet purchasing

I've never been too keen on buying anything on the Internet but I have done a few since I started a pre-paid Master Card.
However, I'm not too pleased with my latest experience....

Mrs A said she wouldn't mind getting an Android Tablet. I remembered a thread on the subject on Vocal Voices a few days ago,
but when I tried to find it I drew a blank. So I did a bit of Googling and found a 7" Android on "LightInTheBox.com" priced at £38.27.
I then found that there were extras of £12.72 for "chinaups" (?) and 69p for shipping insurance.
The acknowledgement of order said that the item would be dispatched from China and would take 10-20 working days to arrive.
Also that there might be customs or import duties to pay.

This morning I received a telephone call, which turned out to be a recorded voice, speaking at a terrific speed, saying that an import
duty of £14 was required and that I should contact another website to make this payment. I couldn't make a note of the website as
it was spelled out at such a high speed. I managed to scribble down HGTPGS - and that's all.

I guess I shall just have to wait and see what happens next. Now you might understand why I am not too pleased.

Any comments?

If you paid by PayPal I think you can cancel the order Aggers and get your money back. I had a situation following buying a print of a painting I liked of my gt gt gt grandfathers. It arrived shoddy and wrinkled. I complained and without hesitation the amount I paid was reimbursed . Get hold of PayPal and see what they can do for you.xxxx

Thanks, Kate. But I don't use Paypal. I have a pre-paid Master Card so that the amount
that crooks could get their hands on is limited.

Aggers, when you get those cards they must come with some information - if you still have it check the terms and conditions, you might have some redress, maybe :? You are honestly better off using Paypal or a credit card as they will give you your money back from a rogue transaction! :? :(

I hope you get this sorted out! Shame you didn't post to ask about that thread really, as myself or one of the other admin would easily have found it for you :( ((((((((((((((((((x)))))))))))))))))))))))

Aggers, as Kaz, said - either look through the paper work or contact MasterCard and tell them of you problem and that you're trying to cancel the order; they hopefully should be able to get the money back for you - just tell them that you've placed the order and now are being charged hidden costs that you weren't told about so. One of the pro's of paying by credit card usually (just not sure if it applies for pre-pay cards)

And I've found another deal identical to the one we had before:

https://www.livingsocial.com/deals/1007 ... urce=blast

it's still valid for 5 days

So if you can cancel your existing order then this link may be of use to you? Good luck

Just to clarify things a little..... and to settle Ria's mind.

The site Aggers ordered his tablet from, www. lightinthebox. com/ is not the one Ria mentioned in this post: viewforum.php?f=2&start=25

Lightinthebox is based in China. It does not mention the cost of shipping until an order is being placed, and even then it is light on information. Information re: Customs charges is here: http://www.lightinthebox.com/fr/knowled ... a2928.html Ts & Cs here: http://www.lightinthebox.com/fr/r/term-of-use.html It appears to be legit and operating properly.

Now, the £14 call from HTGPGS.... supposedly for import duty. The site says that ID will be levied at the port - British port - so why it is being asked for in advance is a mystery. John, can the number be traced via 1471?

PS I can find no cancellation procedure, I wonder if Mastercard can help.

Lightinthebox sell all sorts of stuff - they occasionally appear in the ads on our ballroom forum (it's a free forum so we have no control over the ads). Hope you get sorted Aggers.
