William Roache not guilty

William Roache has been found not guilty of all charges - the right verdict I feel, especially as one charge was already dropped on the judge's direction. Very pleased for him and his family, who have supported him every day in court (and doesn't his son Linus look just the image of his father at the same age).

I agree it was the right decision. I'm no great fan of the cult of "celebrity" and I hope the jury arrived at its verdict not on the basis of the testimonials from his fellow Coronation Street stars, but based on the flimsly evidence presented by the Crown Prosecution Service. It's my view that we really need to reinstate the old Statute of Limitations and have a 10 year time limit on bringing any type of prosecution.

These prosecutions of "crimes" 40 or 50 years old are verging on the ridiculous. Those that say the CPS are acting purely as a response to Savile and conducting a celebrity witch-hunt are quite correct. I know that won't be everyone's view, however .....

And me - it will be interesting to see what happens with the DLT case now.
