Update on Luke (and me)
Posted: 23 Jan 2014, 23:54
I posted on Facebook earlier, but I know you aren't all on Facebook, and something else brought that home to me. I hate people being missed out, you are all my friends, so a quick update
Over the last year Luke's seizures have got worse, hospital admissions, longer, different. So we asked for a referral to the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery. His GP referred him on 3rd Jan and we were offered an appointment on 15.01 (last Weds) Dr Eriksson was really nice and she has introduced a new medication, she wants to re-introduce Aspirin and she is going to arrange for Luke to have an MRI and to be admitted to the epilepsy centre for video telemetry, an ECG and to see a Psychiatrist and Psychologist. She isn't ruling out further surgery either (Luke had neurosurgery at 2 years 9 months)
Tonight, those of you that are on Facebook know this, he had another prolonged seizure, but luckily his emergency medication kicked in and stopped it, without knocking him out like it did last time. This was the rationale behind prescribing it, so that is good. The seizure is stopped and no admission.
Me....I completely lost the plot over Christmas, I was extremely anxious, panicking, watching the phone thinking either it was going to ring, or waking up in a cold sweat thinking it was ringing. My heart was constantly racing, I was shaky, hyper-alert and not in a good place at all. I felt like I was carrying a huge brick of anxiety in my chest constantly.
So I am now having some therapy and my GP has prescribed me some medication. It is too early for the therapy to work, but the medication is helping a lot.
I just wanted to bring you all up to speed, as I know you know all about Luke and some of you see my posts on Facebook, but not everyone does.
Just a thought, Kaz do you think this should be on Famlies and relationships? If so please move it, I just wanted everyone to be included
