Halogen light bulbs

Does anybody use them?

Since the evenings drew in two of my low-energy "last forever" bulbs have blown. The replacements are rubbish, supposedly equivalent to the old 100W they sort of glow for a split second before bursting into light and then take ages to be fully bright.

I have just looked at Halogen bulbs in the hardware store, but they are a bit expensive. Do they last? What colour light to they give off? Are they bright? I like a well lit room.

Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions.

what type of halogen bulbs are they Frank?

i've got some very small ones in an Ikea uplighter (in fact one of the lights that's causing the router problems :) ) and got some spares bulbs from Ikea when I got the light. Just had a look on google and I think the ones I have are referred to as capsule bulbs?

We had some a few years ago mounted flush in the kitchen ceiling. They didn't last long and it was fiddly job replacing them. They were bright though.

Ria and Cromwell I am talking about "real" bulbs to replace the traditional bayonet fitting 240V ones of old. They are an alternative to the low-energy fluorescent types.

We have Halogen bulbs in our living-room ceiling lights and they give a very bright white light.

One ceiling fitting has 5 - 40w bulbs and the other has 3. They claim to give off the illumination of 60w tungsten bulbs.

However, as I think that eight 40 watt bulbs is perhaps a trifle expensive, I have fitted up two 3ft fluorescent lights with
double tubes which serves well most of the time and only uses a fraction of the wattage of the main lights.

Nor me Saundra.

I could not live with fluorescent tubes Aggers.

I have googled and apparently the halogen bulbs do not last long and LED are way too expensive..... so it's back to low-energy. :x :x :x
