I've been saying it for years :D
Remember how I gave up booze for Lent (more than once) and lost one solitary pound in the whole 7 weeks?
My ex-FIL was a biochemist and laughed the first time I went on a diet and gave up drink - he said categorically there are no countable calories in wine.
And in Rosemary Conley's original books she recommended 2 glasses of wine per night; in her own trials with hundreds of men and women, with all the same rules except some drinking the 2 glasses of wine and the others not, the ones drinking lost more weight.

It does not, obviously, mean there are no fat drinkers, or no thin non-drinkers - and it's only wine and spirits that are non-fattening ;)
The article also doesn't go into the overall health impact, it's only talking about weight.

I remember my ex getting a Rosemary Conley book at about the time we were into making home wines, so the two glasses (a loose measure  ) appealed greatly. :D

I also remember the wine books talking about the process turning fruit sugars into alcohol. The misconception was that the body turns alcohol back into sugars: it doesn't.

Beers, stouts and meads do not turn all the sugars from barley, malt, hops and honey into alcohol. They remain in suspension in the liquid and it is their calories which we cannot break down.
