So where were you?

Where were you when you heard about JFK being assassinated (those of you old enough to remember ;) ) ?? I was 14, and a friend who had a television phoned sometime between 7-7.30pm to tell us it had been on tv. JFK was huge here in Ireland as you can imagine, and had visited only the previous June. The country went into mourning. Jackie Kennedy got in touch with our government and asked that a certain group from the Irish army perform a certain routine at the funeral, he had seen it when he was here and he had really admired it. A huge honour and these young men had never been out of Ireland, let alone on a plane, they didn't even have passports.

I was in bed I expect as I was 4 but I do seem to vaguely remember it :?

I lived near the JFK Memorial in Runnymede, which is in Egham on the banks of the Thames, where they signed the Magna Carta :) It's on National Trust land, overlooking the river, very pretty 8-)

I remember (rather vaguely, to be honest) my parents talking about it and watching some of it on the television, but I was about 7 and the event didn't really mean anything to me then.

I was 17, we were watching TV when it came on as a newsflash. Still remember how shocked we all were.

We were clearing the table after tea and dad had just sat down to read his paper when the newsflash came on. Everything just stopped.

We were running a pub in Mitcham, Surrey and opened up at 5.30pm
when the first two customers came in and told us.
I went upstairs and heard it on TV.
