Yesterdays' bbq

We'd been arranged to pick up two people we'd never met (!) and no, we won't be seeing them again - they're the sort of ex-pats who go on aabout how much they have, what they've done with all the land, how much things cost, blah blah, balh. I'm sure Ally knows some bods like that too - and avoids them :P

So, there were Dutch (very rude,) Portuguese (lovely) and English (various)

And a whole sheep had been killed the day before and as Luis did the butchery, we had everything - and I mean everything - from said sheep. And another Luis did the bbq and it was superb, if a bit fatty (not a lamb lover)

But I got talking to a bloke originally from Cuba and he has a bar in the next village and I have "persuaded" Grumpy to go there tomorrow night.

It's not normally my sort of thing, as it's going to be mostly English, with a few locals, but they have a table footie competition going on, and I really would like to speak to an estate agent I also talked to, a bit more - so a few more beers will be consumed

And the lad from Cuba had me in stictches, as the Dutch were going on about him being gay (which he very obviously was) but his put downs were so very well done, I was almost crying - won't say it on here, a bit rude

And I meant to say, why do people take cheap stuff and then drink all the nice beer and wine???????????

We took 12 bottles of beer and when I went to get our second bottle, they'd all gone  All that was left was the cheap beer -

So I asked my mate (stupidly, I thought) but she'd hidden the decent stuff and told me where it was :P

we have 'em here as well ,they tend to live on the West of the island where land is plentiful, here on the East it's more apartments

if you get talking to them somewhere and mentioned that you live on the East -shock horror-they look at you as if you have 2 heads otr something, and then ignore you

Weird, aren't they Vic? It's almost as if they're failures in the former lives and now feel they have something to "prove"

ie, they can afford to live abroad and want everyone to know it.

Boring ole faxxs, I avoid them like the plague.

There are a couple we see, every winter. They "live" in the campsite inthe village and are SO LOUD, click their fingures for service and then get so annoyed when they don't get served immediatley. They often storm off, but always come back, as the bifanas are to die for :)

Yep..we have a few over here Ton and I do avoid them.

It's very easy to do so as they don't use Spanish bars..and haven't bothered to learn the language!

Can't understand why they haven't as the Spanish are the nicest people to talk to and have as friends. :D

As long as they stay out of Paco's I don't care.

And that's why we tend to use Portuguese coffee's Ally - and also why I'm not really looking forward to going to Mario's bar, because of the English, but I really would like to see that estate agent :)

Not quite the same as actually living in a foreign country, but when I go somewhere on holiday I want to experience the local culture, meet the local people, eat the local food etc etc; and I always try to learn at least a few words of wherever it is I'm going, even if it's only as much as hello, please, thank you and good bye. It really makes me wonder why some people fly hundreds of miles and spends lots of money on a holiday to some amazing country, only to sit in the touristy restaurants that serve bangers and mash and baked beans etc and spend all their time by the hotel pool drinking what they have at home.

But then on the other hand I'm happy for them to be doing that as it means the little local places are still what they are, nice, unpretentious and infinitely better than the place on the main road.
