Oh poor cat!!

:( :(

What shall I do?

I've just been at a neighbour's house and on the way back down my road there was a little black cat lying on the verge.
I thought something was odd as they usually scarper when a human approaches.

I went over to it and the poor thing looked terrified, tried to get up but it looked like it might have been hit by a car.
It eventually managed to get up and literally staggered to the nearest tree where it lay down and died right in front of my eyes. :o

I'm so upset.

It has a collar on and looks well fed.
I don't remember seeing it round here before so I can't even let its owner know what's happened. :(

What shall I do? It seems cruel to just leave it there.

Oh dear how awful Ally :(
Off th top of my head I am wondering if you should wrap it in a towel and pop the little kitty in a box at home then call the RSPCA or a local vet, they may be able to find out who it belongs to. As you say, it seems so sad to just leave it there :(

Oh Loz I'm sitting here crying. I feel awful. :(

I will have to go and collect it as I just can't leave it there.

I'll go and get it now and then ring my friend who has 2 cats..I have no clue at all about any welfare for animals over here only ever having had a tortuga so I need her help.

Thanks Loz for replying. xx

Try not to feel awful. You were there when the little mite died and I am sure the owners will gain a little comfort from that. Many people would just leave it there, but you won't do that because you care xxx
Good idea to call your friend. Let us know how it goes ((((((((Ally))))))

I would certainly pick it up and give it a decent burial to stop the birds getting at it if nothing else. If feeling really generous you could always take it to a vet to see if it had been chipped.

Gosh what drama. :(

I got an old bath towel and was just starting to gather the poor cat in it when an elderly couple came over and cottoned on to what I was doing.
I told them what had happened and once they had taken a look they said they thought it belonged to a neighbour of theirs who lives a few doors away.

Off they went to get the neighbour whilst I stayed with the cat. :(

Back came the couple with another couple, and sure enough it was their cat. The lady just burst into tears which got me crying again. :(

The cat was 4 years old named carino (which translates as affection :( ) and was a much loved family pet.

The couple are going to bury the cat in their garden.

I feel totally washed out now. :(

Oh Ally, what a time you have had ((((((((((((Ally))))))))))) I am sure your neighbours are heartbroken at the moment, but as I said before, you had the kindness to be there when others wouldn't have had the courage. Now it is time to be kind to yourself and recover from this shock. Have a cuppa and a cry and then you will start to feel a little better I hope. You did everything right xxx

Thank you Loz for your kind words.

I love cats but as I'm allergic to them can never have one but they are such lovely creatures.

I've had a right good bawl of a cry and Don made me a cuppa. xx

You did a lovely thing by caring enough to see what you could do, and the cat's owners will be very grateful you were there.

:( poor little cat. RIP Carino, sweet dreams and run free at the bridge :(

thank goodness you were there though Ally and because you went back and the neighbours saw, Carino's owners were able to get closure and bury their little furry friend.
