The saga of the bus pass - Part 2

Mick has decided to take up the bus pass for S fight.

I had given up. They had told me that we did not live quite far enough away (we are about 100 yards short) and that there was no way we could appeal. The computer is always right they say.

He has decided that they haven't taken crossing places into account. S has to walk down our lane to the A6 (the main road, which is pretty busy). She then either has two options (if she was walking that is - which she doesn't tend to do. She catches the bus - which costs us £1 each way).

She needs to be on the opposite side of the road.

She can either turn right, walk to the pedestrian crossing, cross and then double back on the other side of the road, thus meaning that she has to walk so many yards in one direction to then come back in the other direction. She would then walk along the A6 into town, into the park and out the other side. However, to cross safely she would need to walk further down the road, cross at the pedestrian crossing and double back on herself.

Alternatively she could get to the bottom of our lane and turn left, staying on this side of the road and walk into town that way where the first pedestrian crossing is in town but to get to it she would have to walk along a small piece of the main road where there is no pavement.

He has spoken to the woman at the council who said that they will look into it. She suggested that we gave them the most direct route that she would walk and that we walk it and measure it. He suggested that the council employ people to do the school bus passes and that they should work out the most direct route, walk it and measure it.

We will await the outcome! As will our next door but one neighbours as if we get a free bus pass, then so will they in a few years time!

There was a report on our tv that a school route has now got a crossing

Added to the school route so a lot of pupils now lose there bus pass it makes the road longer I think

Good for Mick, but I understand you giving up Debih.

I wish him all the best - they ought to take the crossing distances into account IMO so hopefully he might get somewhere! xxx
