Busy weekend ahead for me

Postby debih » 10 Oct 2013, 13:27

I'm really looking forward to it.

I have a lazy day tomorrow. I have to school harvest festival tomorrow afternoon - that'll be odd not having a child at the school anymore but as chair of governors I have to say a thank you to the staff at the end of the service so I need to be there.

Then off to pick L up to take her to the opticians to have her glasses refitted. Then take her to my mums, where S will be walking to, as they are staying overnight tomorrow night.

We are off to a surprise 60th birthday party. As you know we have friends who run the local hotel and it is his 60th birthday next week so his wife has organised a surprise party. We assumed it would be a buffet and a disco but it is in fact a sit down meal with a retro feel. I am having prawn cocktail, chicken kiev and black forest gateaux. And its all free! It's a fancy dress with a 60's theme and I will be resurrecting my hippy outfit from a few years ago.

Saturday morning I am intending on wandering across the moors with the dog for a while before picking up the girls to go riding.

Saturday night is my school reunion. I'm not really all that fussed about it. I only kept in touch with one person from my secondary school days (who has been one of my best friends since before primary school and who I still see on a weekly basis) and to be honest I don't recognise half the names that are on the list. But there are one or two people I would like to see and as the main organiser is flying in from Jakarta I feel that it would be ridiculous for me to not bother to wander the 5 minutes down the hill.

Sunday is another busy day. The girls have singing in the morning (they are part of a youth choir and are rehearsing for a big concert in Derby in November) and in the afternoon we are going to our friends hog roast - he of the surprise 60th birthday. He has an annual hog roast (again, all free) every year for his birthday. (They actually have two - one in the summer. A couple of years ago we all turned up for the annual hog roast to find that they had gone and got married on the sly and the annual hog roast was actually their wedding reception).

What are you all up to?
Life begins at the end of your comfort zone!

Well it would normally be a Harry weekend, but he has begged to change it to next weekend as there is a birthday party and sleepover he's particularly wanting to go to  Although actually, it kind of sorts itself out, as now his footie team are having tournaments again on the last Saturday of every month our weekends were out of kilter with that - so it puts us back into a two-weekly pattern that avoids that......Three weeks without him here though always seems far too long, although I think I mind rather more than he does :?

My weekend starts tomorrow really, with my much-looked-forward to visit to the Literature Festival in Cheltenham to hear Philippa Gregory speak! I found out she is mainly going to be discussing The White Princess so I bought myself a copy - unfortunately it's only out in hardback but I did get a fiver off in Waterstones, and it is a rather beautiful book with a nice sleeve, lovely gold cover and a gold ribbon bookmark :D Am only halfway through so have a lot of reading to do tonight, to finish it in time

Becks is coming home to dog sit whilst I'm out, so it will be lovely to see her - although she's going back to Uni for the weekend, to socialise with her friends :D Mick and I have Saturday to ourselves so I expect a leisurely lie-in if the mutts will allow, than lunch out and maybe a mooch around if it's dry. We usually see my MIL on Saturday at some point, and I know she has more apples for me :D

On Sunday my Aunty Rose is coming to stay, until Friday :) Mick is going to pick her up from Staines station, mid afternoon - that was all arranged when we though M would already be in the area, dropping H back, and when H cried off we decided we couldn't really disappoint AR so he's driving over there to collect her - he's a lovely man my Mick ;)

I remember that secret wedding too, two years already  :D :D

I'm fairly home bound due to new kitten so quite a lazy weekend for me.

Day off tomorrow so I'll be trying my hand at that slow cooker stew / casserole :) and then meeting my SIL for a drink in the evening.
Saturday - annual boiler service sometime in the morning and nothing for the rest of the day
Sunday - curry at my SIL's

and to keep me busy at home during the next three days, I plan to harvest whatever there is left in the greenhouse and put the old plants into the garden recycling; give the pond a bit of a clean out now that the water lily is dying and give the house a bit of a tidy

Perfect really

We are off tomorrow for a week's holiday at Chelmarsh, a little village with it[s own lake (Reservoir) near Bridgnorth in Shropshire.

Self catering but with breakfasts in the farmhouse. Hopefully a quiet, restful holiday away from it all. There's a hide by the lake
where we can watch the wildlife. Bridgnorth is an interesting old town to potter in, and there it is only a short distance from Wenlock Edge
and two lovely arboretums.

Be good while I'm away.

I really like Shropshire. We stayed in Church Stretton a few years ago. Have a lovely time, is Prince going?

You have a lovely weekend too Deb.
