Oh brilliant ....

Postby TheOstrich » 03 Oct 2013, 09:04

Yesterday we had our Centrica (British Gas) annual service. No real problems at all, just a couple of minor things adjusted.

But there was one funny moment ..... the engineer was working on the gas fire in the sitting room. I went downstairs to make a cuppa tea, and he called out: "Excuse me, but can I show you this?"

Oh dear, I thought, it's going to be some major problem, or one of those incomprehensible lectures that all repair technicians love to trot out from time to time to show how superior they are in knowledge compared to the ordinary, common or garden Ostrich. :(

So into the room I went, to find him sitting on his haunches in front of the fire, but staring out of the patio window.

"Did you know," he said "I have just spent the last three minutes watching a large grey squirrel digging up your back lawn and burying nuts in it?"

But the "oh brilliant" bit is this ....

Today, just now, the phone went. It seemed to be a strange strangulated, incomprehensible automated telephone message. Mrs O put the phone down. I did the 1471 trick and found it was from 0800 9806 166. So I googled and came up with this Michael Hanlon article in the Daily Mail from 2011 ....

I suppose now we are going to get pestered to death, despite being in the Telephone Preference Service.

The service engineer did casually remark as he left the house yesterday that we might get a Customer Survey call .....

I've got a technical answer for you if you want, but you will have to call a New Zealand number and leave a message in an answer phone detailing your dogs name, shoe size and shampoo brand before an operator can be found you deal with your enquiry.
