A "national treasure" indeed .... that's pushing it a bit !! :D

Same brutalist concrete movement as the old Birmingham Central library, which has just been replaced.

Ossie, when you've come over this way have you ever noticed Cannock's multi storey car park? You can see it for miles around and it's white clad so is hard to miss! An example of 70s architecture at it's worst! I can't find a picture of it but you can see the white monstrosity peeping out from behind the equally ugly theatre and, as you can see, some of the cladding has fallen off which makes it even more attractive!

I actually prefer the concrete Central Library to the new one.

They have saved the wrong place!

residents have been petitioning to save the long-standing depo

Prestonians wanted to save a "depo", whatever that is, not the bus station! :o

I meant in the ugly bus station stakes, not just ugly buildings

I think the civil service offices in Leeds, aka "The Kremlin" once scored very highly in a "My God, that's an ugly building" contest!

We are thrilled that at last it has been decided to keep it. Preston Council should hang their heads in shame at letting it get so run down. It is a wonderful building and it is such good news that at last that has been recognised.

Ossie - I have been in the Canaries for the past week or so and got the news while I was away.
