Is it me???

I've just rung the doctors as the labrynthitis is driving me mad now. I was in no real rush for an appointment so asked for one at the beginning of next week.

"We don't do advance bookings anymore" says the receptionist "you need to ring in a morning for us to see if we can get you in"

"Thats very inconvenient for someone at work I says but never mind. Is there any chance of an appointment for today then" says I.

"No sorry. We're booked up now til next Thursday".

How does that work then?

Debih, do you suffer from labyinthitis or is this a new thing for you? I'm sure it isn't the same thing, but when I lost my hearing it started with what I thought was labrynthitis. If you do have any hearing loss at all make sure you are seen today xxx

That makes no sense at all! If they don't accept advance bookings then how can they be fully booked until next Thursday? :?

Perhaps it's what seems to happen at our surgery - you make your initial appointment by ringing in the morning as soon as the lines open at 8.30, and it's first come first served. You come in to see the doctor and if they want you to come back for any reason they ask you to make an appointment to see them with the receptionist on the way out - maybe the full appointment book is those follow ups Debih? :?

I much preferred the old system where you rang up at any time of day, spoke to the receptionist, and they made you a mutually convenient appointment - the new way is a real free-for-all :(

Hope you can get seen soon xxx

Yes I'm pretty sure it is. I first had it about 3 years ago and the doctor diagnosed it as labrynthitis and said if I could manage without tablets that would be best as it would mean a tablet a day for something that might only come for a week a year. I had it for about two weeks and haven't really had it again.

But over the last month I seem to have suffered every other day. I have spoken to a few people who all say that someone they know has a tablet to take when it flares up so I want to go back and see them about it.

As Kaz says, our doctor works on the same principle, Debih.

The idea is that although appointments are booked in advance, every day a certain amount of time
is set aside for emergency calls. Once the daily emergency allocation has been filled, that's it.

This means that you need to dial up as soon as you can when the surgery opens up in the morning.

Hope you get something to help you soon.
