I went online for my motorbike insurance and got a quote for fully comp at £134.74.

When I phoned up it went up to £305.81 because I had used my full car no claims online and it cannot be transferred to a bike. That's still not bad for 15 months fully comp, and that's the only insurance I have ever used.

Today the paperwork came through..... £495.02, and that is with a £900.00 excess payment!!!!! This includes £110.00 Broker's fee, 79.81 credit at £19.05 per £100 for DD payments, plus a deposit of 41.58 (already paid).

I am going to use this policy in order to pick the bike up on Monday and then I am going to invoke the 14 day cooling off period and cancel.

The bloody cheek of them.

What sort of bike is it and how many miles do you do a year.
Am renewing my car insurance in the next two weeks. It has come down by nearly 5% from last year and that is with the same company and the same car. So shop around as most insurance companies want new business.

Cruiser, it's a brand new Honda SH125i with ABS. I will only be using it on short runs for shopping, visiting and pottering about etc. I did shop around, and the quote I got over the phone was reasonable - as good as any. It was only when the papers came through that the add-ons were revealed. That is what has got me so wound up. I am now shopping around again.

There are people out there who would be blind-sided by all the reams of paperwork, or don't read the small print and just accept it, in which case the con men get away with it.

Hope you manage to find it cheaper - that's a lot of hidden add-ons isn't it
