Well, we are in Gridlock here. Can't get into town and can't get out of it. If you do get into town there is nowhere to park. The town is full. Roads blocked with caravans parting from the tow thingy on the cars. Accidents on ghastly slip roads that should have been roundabouts but no money to build them so now we have people dying as they don't know how to slip out of them to cross over and join the traffic.

I never join the main traffic from those slip rounds round here. I turn in the opposite direction to the next actual roundabout rather than risk them.

It's like that here every Saturday from Easter, and most days in the summer holidays.
You can go into town, even on Saturdays when the market fills the entire High Street - but if you want to park you have to be there by 9.30, or wait till after 3.30. Most of the market stalls are sold out or packing up by then of course...
Poor Bb has to drive towards Southampton virtually every day, Lyndhurst is a complete no-no so the only other route is through Beaulieu, which can be just as bad if they have an event on.

Wouldn't swap it though, after all we get to enjoy it all year

I know Di! We are very lucky to live where we do. I'm more rattled about the accidents that happen because of bad road planning I suppose. We are surrounded by fileds and the council should do Park and Ride because the visitors that do try to get into town are so fed up by the time they've been stuck in it for ages, then they can't park anywhere so they get out of town like bats out of hell without ever stopping.

We've been caught in summer traffic in The New Forest in the past - couldn't believe how bad it was.

Fugi, you speak far more sense than that Mary Portas woman, for that reason I do not expect the government to give you £millions to spend or for the council to take a blind bit of notice.

i went to morrissons this morning at 10 ish and traffic was terrible
its saturday every body rides round trying to get a parking space
car parks are full
and town centre is one way
had to go the long way round to shop to avoid queues
same every weekend
thats the price we pay for living at the seaside im afraid

Fugi, the roads in Dorset are pretty dire in general I think Isn't it one of the few counties without any motorway?

Gloucester has the Docks which are fabulous but is otherwise a bit of a dive, so not many traffic problems here

I lived in York for seven years, in the 1980s, now that city had serious traffic and tourist issues, even in those days!!

Oh gosh yes you're right Kaz, York is a beautiful place but parking dreadful. I might have seen you while I was visiting

It can be silly though can't it, I'm sure people leave here having only seen a car park. The next little village is lovely, often has something good going on - this week it's their Arts festival - but I've sometimes tried to go to events there and had to come home because I just couldn't park

Today was fine, Bb was home quite early so I went out for the shopping - in the other direction The next town's a bit of a dump so no problems there

We walked into town and it was one big snarl up! The town was a gigantic car park. We all know it's going to happen every summer but it still takes us by surprise. We spent the afternoon and into the early evening in our favourite sunny pub courtyard and did notice we're getting even more upmarket people. The beautiful London trendies dressed in great style and baby bumps and divine children. But lots of dogs. So this pedigree something or other dumped right by our table. It was a terrible smell and the sight of the dog's rear and hunched body was revolting and the trendy owners were trying to scrape it up from the gravel with a tissue and they didn't have a poop bag! My wonderful daughter had a Superdrug plastic bag so she emptied the goods into her hand bag and gave them the bag. I was heaving. Nearly put me off my wine - but not quite!

I'm not a dog person and that is the second time this has happened to me in recent months. The last time was in a pub restaurant while we were eating.

Disgusting about the dog .... I really hate that sort of thing, (and I speak as an ex-dog owner) ...

I always used to find Friday afternoons were the worst in Beaminster. You couldn't cross the road outside the office to get to the Post Office because of the relentless stream of south-bound cars towing caravans, processing down the main road ........ all obviously heading your way, Fugi ....

And that was 15 years ago !!
