What a pleasant surprise

I popped by the local butcher this morning to get myself a steak for a BBQ I'm going to tomorrow. My brother has often said that this particular butcher has very good pork sausages. I was about to pay for the steak when I remembered what my brother said and commented to the butcher: "Oh, and I believe you have the best pork sausages" to which he (obviously) replied "indeed we do"

They only had five left so I said I'd take them all (because I knew my brother would definitely enjoy them) and what lovely surprise when I wasn't charged a penny for them so I could try and enjoy them :kick:

The steak I got looks amazing as well - rib eye that's just perfectly marbled; cannot wait for that on the BBQ tomorrow

The reason I like using the local market is because the stallholders are not controlled by a computer or head office and can do these one-off promotions when it suits them.

Oh how lovely!!! Hope you have a great time! :kick:

We're having a barbecue this evening - I have rump steak, prime Angus burgers, taste the difference local pork sausages and will make a big bowl of salad with olives and feta cheese. Best of all we called round to D's earlier on and she gave me a huge bowlful of homemade fruit salad, grapes, apples, oranges, melon - yum!!! I have Greek yoghurt or vanilla ice cream for it 8-) 8-)

All are welcome if you can get here in time to stop us all scoffing the lot :-P

Ooh lovely Meriad - and you too Kaz :D
Bet you'll go back to him Meriad :)
The butcher in the village is really good, we had fillet steak from him for that special day in December ;) Expensive but then you know it will be worth it.

Thanks for the invite Kaz but we're having a barbie too, pork belly slices for a change :) . I've made a Jamie mix, nice and spicy, and rubbed it in; I'm going to do them first in the Remoska which will cook most of the fat off but keep them moist.
I bought some purple sprouting broccoli because I can't resist it (not for £1 anyway!) and have just found a recipe online for it as a salad with feta and a dressing made with garlic, chilli & lemon. I have feta opened so that's that sorted - might add some black olives too :)
Maybe some garlic bread too.

We have cherries, and those Thornton Brownie bites, and Kellys Cornish ice cream - Black Forest pud :D

Actually Lissie, the earlier nice breeze has got quite a bit stronger, and in the back garden which now has no sun it's feeling quite cool.
Still nicer than you have though, and you started it later than us, that doesn't seem fair!

And my brother was right - they were delicious. I ended up going to Karl and Nadine's on the Saturday evening for an impromptu BBQ so took them along for that. And the steak was superb as well - so yes, I definitely will go back. More expensive but then excellent quality :D
