Nothing lasts anymore.

Yesterday my nine year old Servis washing machine decided that it did not want to enter spin mode - no way, no how! :o

Now, there is nothing wrong with it mechanically, it is the control panel that has gone on strike. So, today I have been looking round for a replacement panel - it is a box about 40 cm x 10 cm x 7 cm. They are available, but at........... £127.00 + VAT!!!

I had exactly the same problem with my old Zanussi which was about 6 years old.... it was cheaper to buy a new machine than to buy a replacement control panel and pay for someone to install it. :(

Appliances Online (http://www.appliancesonline.co.uk/) are very good and extremely competitive with their prices if you're looking for a new machine

Don't they make all these machines with "built in obsolescence" nowadays, a repair man told me that years ago (actually that was about our fridge which was almost 10 years old then and is now the best part of 20 years old  ). He reckoned they were all meant to give up the ghost after about 10 years which sounds about right for your washer, WM. Manufacturers do not want you to repair and keep using, they want you to buy a new machine, so they make the parts extremely expensive (if you can even get them). For that money you should definitely be able to get a cheap and cheerful washing machine I would have thought.

Hmmm. Apparently the original Service Co went bust about five years ago, that might be why spares, if available, are so expensive. But I guess that Osc is also right, these companies do not want us to repair things, they want us to buy new.

Looks as though I'll have to take Saundra's advice and bite the bullet. Thanks for the link Ria.

WM,
Have you tried espares. They have a good web site. I used them to get a new plastic holder for the door in my fridge which is nearly 20 years old. Good customer service. You may find they have the part cheaper than you have quoted.

I was going to suggest a new one too - I am sure I saw in Argos' window the other day that they have a Beko for £179 at the moment, down from almost £300 - will look for a link >>>>>>>>>>>>

There you go
