What a good idea

The local council (not sure if it is parish or district), has put a skip outside the village library for anyone to chuck large bits of rubbish in. It gets taken away at 2pm. I've been up and put a roll of old carpet and lots of plastic bits in.

that is a really good idea.

In Germany, twice a year, you could leave larger items outside your property and it was collected very early the next morning. But during that day and evening, anyone could come along and take what they wanted. So many people furnished their first homes like that, it was amazing what some people threw away.

Fly tipping has become such a big issue so having skips like that provided really is very clever!

Saundra, our little private estate does the same thing and, yes, Ria it really does cut down on the fly tipping. People do leave things next to the skip for others to take and if not the ground staff loads them into the skip when it's ready to go.

As Cromwell says, it's a simple good idea.

Meriad wr do something similar here. Once a year we can put anything out and the council will take it away. I got so many things like a paddling pool, extra dinning room chairs etc that we used and then put back out when the need was no longer there for the next person to use. It use to be as simple as that.

And then the council red tapped it.
Now you need to book it, which mean looking on the website as they don’t advertise it. You can only book for when they will be in our area and you can’t book more than 2 months in advance.

It can only be no more than 2mSquared. And you are not supposed to leave it on the curb but instead up by your house. So basically killing the community recycling option.

Unfortunately it’s been a few years now and hasn’t returned to what it was.

We just ask the local council guys when they're in the bar, buy them a beer (or coffee  ) and they will come to the house.

otherwise, everything gets put down by the communal bins and they take it from there.

Or we get Jose Felipe to take it, he then recycles what he can. He took out old washing machine for parts. His mum had our old tv stand, he repaired the rusty exercise bike and his wife now uses it.

My council willtake two bulky items each year. You have to book a day. I am having a chest freezer taken. It has to be outside by 6.30. a.m.

It will be on the drive the night before. It is a god system and Ihave used it before.
