Vocal Voices

I've been at work this morning and was just approaching the bus station to come home when right in front of me two men just threw away their empty drink cartons.

Apart from the fact there was a bin right behind them I was cross as I love this place and care enough to want it kept nice.

I asked them (very politely) if they'd mind picking up their litter.
There followed a bit of back chat from them..to which I jokingly gave back as good as I got.

Then it all went wrong.

The conversation had all been in Spanish but as I was walking away they asked if I was English..I said no I'm Scottish.
They accused me of being racist as they were Arabs!!
They then called me a b*tch.

I honestly haven't got a racist bone in my body and I wouldn't have cared if the flamin queen had dropped that litter I still would have said something.

I actually felt sick on the bus and feel upset.

And Don's not here to cuddle me.

I am sorry this happened and you were right to say something - I would have also. And sadly the world is full of people who will always think you're 'picking' on them because of their race or religion; not because of whatever action they did.

You're the better person in this so try and put it behind you and don't let them ruin your day for you

Exacty what Jo and Meri said - there are some very ignorant people in the world, and I'm afraid some people love to pull 'the race card' when they do wrong

You were so right to say something Ally and I admire your guts as I would have been afraid to say anything. I would just have given them hard looks which would have been off their backs like water off a duck's. It's a nasty experience but you did the right thing. I hate the race card being played when the issue is about something totally unrelated to race.

I can picture the area now that I've been there myself.

I don't, when I see very rough looking louts dropping litter in town I know I would just get a mouthful of abuse, or worse, so you were brave Ally xxxxxx

I just fume inwardly and walk on I do speak when it's children though, little ones who are smaller than me....................
