Is there a law about taking something that's been dumped

yesterday on my way home I drove past this small set of factories and there was a huge airline approved dog carrier. I stopped the car and went to look to make sure that it wasn't a case of someone dumping a pet but thankfully it was empty. It was still there this morning and I was thinking that if it's still there tonight on my way home I could take it home and convert it into a nice cat cabin for the garden or - once I've given it a better once over and checked the condition - could donate it either to my brother who has a dog or a local rescue. But first impression yesterday was that it wouldn't be secure enough for transporting a dog.

I would think it is safe enough to nab it provided it is not on private ground.

Thanks - will have a look this evening. Sadly I suspect it'll be gone and I could kick myself for not grabbing it last night but hey ho......

Hope you get it Merry. I am reminded of one of Pep`s axioms, "If you see something you really want grab it then and there because it wont be there when you come back" particularly apt for shopping at Lidl. Reminded too of bringing our ridgeback, 10 stone or more of him from Africa to Spain, he managed to break out of his carrier at Heathrow when transiting. The authorities there were very good though, caught him, found a new carrier and sent him on to Malaga where we collected him. No charge either, human nature comes up trumps at times.

Digging in my memory a bit deeper we only knew of the incident by a message to say he would be on a later flight than booked because of what happened. I remember that the carrier was the property of the airline and was sent back, perhaps the one by the roadside is also but should be so marked. A few imponderables as to how it got there.
