Why does everybody clap...

... at the same cadence / speed?
I was watching Pointless and at the end of each round the contestants and audience all clapped, and always at the same timing - sort of, two per second - they were not prompted.
Out of interest I did a round of the minor channels and YouTube to find people clapping and they were all the same.
Most of us, from all cultures, appear to be hard-wired to beat the same drum. It's probably why most of the biggest hits ever are based in the 8 note beat, boom-da boom-da boom-da... it's what we clap.
Interesting it's not, I just thought that I'd mention it.
