Is anyone else in it?

We received an email from EonNext on Monday asking if we were interested in signing up for it, so we did.
Today we got a second email from EonNext inviting us take part in Tuesday's "Event" running between 16:30 and 18:00. So we opted in.

The email said we had to reduce our electricity consumption by 20%. So all we did was delay cooking the evening meal from our usual 5 pm to 6 pm, and tuned into ITV+1 (Freeview 35) so Mrs O could still watch "The Chase"

I believe we've earned ourselves a rebate off our next bill of 69p .....

I cannot join the scheme as I do not have a smart meter.

If you manage to save 69p per day you wil lsave about £250 each year.
But what is it costing to send out the emails and calulate the refund for those taking part. In my opinion just another gimick.

The government is spending huge sums on advertising what benifits are available during the cold weather. MOst people alrady know about this
so another waste of money.

It's all a come on to get people used to the idea of paying different amounts of money for their power at different times of day.

No thank you. This is another case (imo) where a big company is creatively looking for ways to rip you off.

Also a way to try and normalise a worse life. Get used to power blackouts, says head of the national grid.

Ossie, I have seen lots of similar examples on the BBC article covering the same subject, yet it was only days ago that we were being told we could save "up to" £100 by switching off.

Just what consumption would be needed to make such savings over the days when the scheme runs?

It is all hype along the same lines that the "average" household bill would be £4,000 or thereabouts. Talk about the media going OTT for a story!

Saundra, nobody is going to save anything like £250. The scheme only runs in winter from November to March and only on those days when it is in operation - so far only two, this Monday and Tuesday. In total it only ran for two and a half hours.

There is no harm in signing up, if you can.

Just as a postscript to this, EonNext have emailed to say we saved 83% of our normal electricity consumption in that 90 minute period and we're going to get a credit of £2.60 off the next bill!

Basically it was down to not using the cooker and the TV.

Mrs O says she hopes it was worth it for sitting in the dark twiddling her thumbs for an hour ....

Let's be honest, Ossie, it only works for the profligate T-shirt and shorts wearing brigade in their open-plan 25 °C homes who could not care less.

Us 'normal' people get pennies. We can save more just by being sensible throughout the day.
