Car drama!!

Postby Ally » 29 Apr 2013, 09:41

Oh dear oh dear oh dear

As it's mum and dads last full day of their holibobs I was going to pick them up to bring them back here for the day.

I'm in the car happily singing along to The Undertones ( ) when there was a sort of kerrunch clang noise from the car. :o
(It was at this point I remembered I'd forgotten to tell Don the car was making funny noises yesterday.)

Me, being me, turned the volume up even louder hoping it would go away.

But no...I could feel the car losing all power and just about managed to steer it into a lay by.

Never having experienced this before I just sat there thinking..now what?!

Rang Don..no reply. Remembered he was going for a run and doesn't take his phone.

Rang mum and told her to get a taxi to ours.

Rootled in the glove compartment and found the details of Linea Direct so rang them and was told they'd be there within 30 minutes. :D

By law in Spain you have to have an emergency box in your car so I got that out and put the 2 orange triangles at each end of the car to warn other drivers the car was broken down.

But it was the next item that really bothered me!
I had to put on the reflector vest that was in the emergency box!

A bright ORANGE vest!!

I don't do orange!!

So there I am, sitting on the grass verge, wearing:

Short shorts.
A Billy Idol t shirt.
Silver flip flops.
And a friggin orange reflector vest!

On the upside I was 'rescued' 25 minutes later by a very dashing chappie in a pick up truck.

I sat up in the front of said truck with dashing chappie...all I needed was a Yorkie bar!

I've had 2 cups of tea after all this drama!

LSH (long suffering husband) said to me..I hope you've learnt your lesson and will in future tell me if you hear anything funny from the car again.

I said the only thing I've learnt is I don't suit orange!!

Oh Ally, you have a way of writing that does make me laugh. I'm sure you weren't laughing at the time though.

Now follow OH's advice and make sure you don't break down again, you don't want to have to wear an awful orange vest again now do you!

I can imagine that the orange would clash somewhat with your bright red face

BTW you can't beat a bit of LOUD Undertones can you ;)

I like eating oranges.

I like a Terry's chocolate orange.

I like Jo Malone's orange blossom.

I don't like orange clothes though.

You obviously went to the same school as car mechanics as I did.

If in doubt, turn the radio up louder.

But if that had been us - which it was, a few weeks ago - I'd have told Bb there was something wrong with the car, he'd have said, Really? are you sure? I haven't noticed anything...Then a few weeks later we'd have had exactly the same conversation, but with him adding 'you said that ages ago, but it's been fine'...then only a couple of days later he had to call out RAC

Don't the Spanish offer a range of colours? You could campaign, for his and hers jackets :)

Does the vest have to be orange?

Can't it be that nice lime green, or lemon yellow, or that totally adorable aqua blue?

Orange always looks so bad on someone who is not Dutch. :P
