Vocal Voices

Writing about Aggers dog who I am sure was called Prince got me thinking.

When I was child nearly all dogs had names like King, Prince, or Susie, Penny, Judy

We had a labrador called Micky and my nan had collies called Susie and Judy.

She had a cat called Sandy and one called Twinkle.

We had a cat called Smokey

What were your childhood dogs and cats called?

Remus the boxer, Pip the collie and Puddy the cat. After I thought I saw a puddy tat

We always had Alsatians, so Max, Karl, Klaus, Kaiser and now Timo. They just seemed to fit - German and all that.

When we had two black cats they were Samantha and Tabatha (Bewitched TV prog).

Growing up we always had dogs.... Whiskey, Hassan, Rommel, Nicky, Charlie (x2), Max, Dunja (x2) and Jessie. We also had one cat called Kitty

My cats have been Bonny, Mahoney, Molly, Chloe, Abbie, Jamie, Jasper, Monty, Harry, Henry, Ava and Eli...

Never had a cat or dog as a pet in childhood, although when my S was about 8 or 9, she wanted one, so we did get a collie rescue dog called Shep, who lasted for about a week and had to go back as he was way too boisterous.

My F had bred budgerigars as a teenager, so we did have a couple of budgies, the male one I remember was called Joey.

I confess I've never been a huge cat or dog fan; when Master O was a child, we did have a Chinese Crested dog called Sammy, but when she passed on, we decided not to replace.

No pets as a child. However my Gran had a dog called Laddie. Good Scottish name for a dog that...

See this is really proving my point, we had traditional names when we were younger

Budgies were all Joey, Billy or Bobby.

The cats - in chronological order- were Willum, Moggy, Miggy, Kitsy, and Felix. Our Sheltie was Susie, the budgie was Billy, the rabbit was Robert Rabbit, the hamsters were Hammy and Tarzan.

As an adult we had a cat called Oliver. He was wild and all the wild cats were being killed on the road close by. After our daughter whining at me for a week I made a trap and baited it with food and caught him.

Hence his name. Oliver.

A cat called Simon and a mongrel dog called Ruff.
