Just watching the national news and two bombeiros have been arrested for starting fires

Not one fire, but at last five this year All up north.

One is aged 19, the other 25.

Both now in jail.

Another five are under investigation.

I know the wages here in Portugal are very low and the bombeiros only get paid when they get a call out, but still

What irresponsible stupidity.

Gosh Jen I find it irresponsible but also the government know it happens so IMO
They should pay the fire men a Good wage in the first place and be like other countries respect fire men for what the do because fire takes lives and property

Terrible! Doing such a dangerous job really should be paid though.

They get paid for call-outs, but have to supply their own uniforms

So far this year, almost sixty people have been arrested and jailed for lighting fires Mostly by accident, using machines etc, but some delibrately.

A fireman in France has also been arrested for starting fires.
There are some strange people about.

Pompiers in France are also mainly volunteer until they are called out, when they get paid.
