What is it

Postby victor » 15 Dec 2021, 16:18

with some kids and social media,

Granddaughter is at senior school in Kidderminster

She told us this week that a 1st year girl had been found in the toilets drinking a bottle of BLEACH ,
luckily she is in hospital and will be ok.

However at a nearby school a boy had done the same thing only he died

Both were being bullied online with threats of being attacked if they did not do the dare.

:o What a world we live in :( In my day school bullying was a bit of name-calling, or tripping someone up in the playground. This stuff is just horrific

Makes you start to lose your faith in humanity, TBH. :o

Especially when we've just had Arthur, Baby Star and that macabre bloke who defiled dead bodies in Kent, you do wonder what we are coming to .....

When I was a teacher those who were being bullied were urged, very strongly, some of today's snowflakes might even say "bullied", to come forward and report it. When they did they were always taken seriously and disciplinary action was taken against the alleged bully / bullies once a case was proven. No ifs, no buts.

What worries me about today's social media bullying is that it is so easy to prove (providing the victim comes forward) it's a doddle. There are digital trails and they are not hard to follow - phone to phone, tablet to tablet, message to message, email to email. The perp might be able to delete things their end but the victim has viable copies. Why this is not being done mystifies me.

Because most of it happens outside school hours Thats the worst thing with cyber bullying, its relentless. No getting home from school and forgetting about it :|

Cyberbullying is hugely on the increase and not enough is being done about it. Social media platforms are being asked to monitor and report and block, but even they can only do much because it's too easy to open new accounts.

I think a big issue also is that many of the bullies are under age so legally not much can be done to them once caught
