Today is the Birthday of my darling husband, he was one of the most highly respected man ever both in UK and in all the countries where he worked.. His motto was "Always leave something better than what we found".. He cared deeply for local workers, arranged for dentists and doctors to treat locals free of charge some who travelled ten and fifteen miles to be seen and to have extractions.. When he died we did not have a funeral but a quiet gathering of approximately ten close people at his graveside (we kept a plot when I sold the house)
His memorial service filled the church with the overspill outside it was amazing, over 300 people from here and abroad came, the accolades from his workers were amazing.
One example when we arrived on a new site he would spend three to four days going around the project, talking to staff observing and taking notes.. He approached Abdul who was responsible for the public lavatory.. The smell and state of it was sickening..
"Abdul" said spouse "I want you to clean this lavatory" The look of amazement at such a suggestion and his annoyance was obvious..
Bring four buckets of boiling water.. Bleach and a strong broom said Patrick..
His request was carried out, he then rolled up his sleeves and he scrubbed that lavatory and the walls until it was spotless.. The men, the locals, looked on in disbelief... when complete they clapped and his place as "Noble Sir Patrick" as he was referred too had made his place as Project manager building another sugar refinery.. Good day for a funeral Maggie..
