On line banking

Is it hard or complicated to do one line banking ??

Saundra the process is easy and (relatively) safe but for setting it up you will probably need some help from someone who is savvy with such things as passwords and phone SMS (text) authentication.

For example with Yorkshire Bank I need:
* a strong password - 10 characters or more of upper and lower case letters, special characters and numbers
* customer number provided by the bank at registration
* a phone to receive one-time passcode texts
* six digit PIN - not your card PIN, it is one you create for payment authentication
* answers to three random questions - dog's favourite food sort of thing.

I cannot possibly remember all of those details so they are kept in a hidden file on my laptop.

Other banks will be similar. I keep the login page in my bookmarks.

To login I first have to give my customer number. I am then asked for three random characters from my password - 2-5-9 etc, it changes every time. I then receive a six digit passcode on my phone and that also needs to be entered. If everything is correct I am in.

Once I am in it is simply a case of clicking links and following instructions to set up DDs, SOs, reading statements and so on.

If I am making online payments to a store the authentication is to give three random characters from my PIN and answer one of my questions. It only usually happens to the first payment with any store.

It all sounds a bit complicated but once used a few times it becomes second nature. It might help if Liv, or someone you trust, could give you a walk-through on your first few attempts.

I use online banking.
AS WM has said it is fairly easy to set up.
I keep my passwords and other info in a small folder. I am the only one using this computer so I feel the security is very good.
I like having to have your mobile phone with you as a pin number is sent to the phone which you then have to enter onto the computer
So no phone, no pin number, no transaction.
Tried to make one recently but it would not be accepted as the receiveing bank-TSB was not a member of some banking organisation.
Had to pay by cheque.
It is a good system and saves having to have a lot of cash in the house.
Will never use the mobile phone for banking.

I find it easy Saundra, but as the others have said you might want some help setting it up. Depends who you bank with tbh, they all have a slightly different system. Once you're set up it saves so much hassle, can't remember the last time I had to visit my branch.

What I like about it Saundra is you can check it every day if you want to, instead of waiting for a statement, which makes it safer in my opinion.

I also like being able to pay cheques in via the banking app too

I cannot remember the last time I saw a cheque never mind making one out or paying one in. And I will never do banking or buy things on my phone. I am not connected 24/7 and can go days without using it. I could easily lose it (have it pinched) and for someone to be using it, and its apps, without me knowing for ages. That's just me, though.

In the last two weeks I have had two cheques a small £25 premium bond win and a £50 refund on Luke's mobility insurance. Both paid in without leaving the house.

Sorry I feel online banking is safer. My friend used to say but what if someone steals all my money? A its not likely, B they re more likely to steal your handbag and C if you want you can check it 20 times a day, how often do you have a statement? Monthly, oh dear!!!!

I might get Scarlett dad to set it up for me and check it when he comes over the only reason I need it is because
After November the state pension can't be collected from a post office and of contract has to go into a bank account and as I'm not able to get to a bank in town I'm getting more and more scared to go out oneline seems the only option sigh
